Social life in the beautiful park

In the early 19th century, the old fortifications around Gothenburg were torn down. The aim was to beautify the city, and one way of doing this was to create parks. One of Europe’s best preserved 19th century parks is the Garden society of Gothenburg, which was founded by private donors. In the beginning you had to pay to visit the park, which meant that the park was accessible to those who could afford it.

Over the years, the Garden society of Gothenburg has changed. Some buildings have been added and others have disappeared. During this cultural history walk, we will explore the history of the Garden society of Gothenburg. How can you tell that it is a 19th century park today?
