Guild beaker

This beaker from 1763 belonged to the Society of Journeymen Coopers (Tunnbindaregesällskapet) in Gothenburg. The beaker is made of silver but several parts are gilded. It almost looks more like gold than silver. The beaker is 10.9 cm tall and 9.4 cm wide at the top and weighs 170 grams. The inside is gilded so the beaker can be drunk from.

The names of about 20 artisans are engraved on the beaker and are framed by gilded laurel leaves. At the top of the beaker is the text in Swedish: “This is the beaker of the Society of Journeymen Coopers, Anno 1763.” A coin is set in the bottom, a special thaler from Brunswick in Germany, dated 1663.
