1 carolin is worth 10 francs. They are always made of gold. The coin is slightly less than 2 cm in diameter and weighs just over 3 grams. Carolins were an attempt by Sweden to participate in the Latin Monetary Union led by France. Carolins were produced in Sweden in the 1600s, 1700s, and 1800s. A.O. Wallenberg, the founder of SE Banken, worked hard for the carolin coins, but the entire project failed when France lost the war against Prussia in 1870–1871.
