A round silver coin, worth 1 1/2 marks. On the front, the coin features the national coat of arms of Erik XIV, and around it is Erik’s royal title in Latin. On the reverse side, there is an image of water with boats and houses along the shore. Rays are coming from the sky, and a bird symbolizing the presence of God is depicted.
The image has been interpreted as Älvsborg city, a city that was located where the southern abutment of Älvsborg Bridge is today. Around the image is Erik XIV’s motto, ‘Gud ger åt vem han vill’ (God gives to whom He wills), and the year 1562. Älvsborg city was burned down by the Danes in 1563. The coin is 3.6 cm in diameter and weighs 14.2 grams.
