A round silver coin worth 4 marks. On the front, there is an image of Karl IX in half-figure. He wears armor and supports his left arm against the national coat of arms. In his right hand, he holds a halberd, but he does not have a royal crown on his head. One can discern the king’s very characteristic hairstyle with three strands of hair meeting at the forehead and framing his bald crown. On one side of him, it reads 16, and on the other side, it reads 05. Around him is text with his royal title in Latin.
On the reverse side, there is a sun in the center with wavy rays, and in the middle of it is the word ‘God’ in Hebrew characters. Around the sun is one of Karl IX’s mottos, ‘Jehova (God) är min tröst’ (Jehovah is my comfort). Surrounding the motto is ‘IIII svenska mark’ (4 Swedish marks). The coin is 4.1 cm in diameter and weighs almost 20 grams.
