Sand box

A brass sand box, or sand dispenser. The sand box was used before blotting paper came into common use. Sand was poured over the paper to help dry the ink and prevent smudging. The sand box is shaped like a cube, measuring 4.7 cm in length, 4.7 cm in width, and 4 cm in height. It weighs 420 grams. The top is perforated to allow sand to be dispensed when the box is turned upside down. The sand box was acquired by the City Museum in 1962 as a gift from Miss Carin Carlberg.
