Crossroads of history, memory and politics
Pawel Machcewicz is the author and former director of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdansk. Immediately after the opening of the museum, 2017, Machcewicz was dismissed by the Polish government on the grounds that the museum presents an over-European and anti-militaristic view of the war and civilian suffering. An event that attracted great attention internationally.
A lecture and panel discussion between Machcewicz, Britta Söderqvist (Director of Museums) and Ann Ighe (Senior lecturer Economic History and Editor of the magazine Ord & Bild). In collaboration with the Department of Historical Studies and the Center for Critical Heritage Studies, University of Gothenburg. Simultaneous interpretation to swedish.
